Bursary Description

Rand Water is inviting undergraduate students to apply for the 2026 External Bursary Program. This opportunity is aimed at students who are interested in building a career within the water sector and related professional fields.

The bursary is designed to support academically deserving students who need financial assistance to complete their qualifications. Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged individuals (ACI) who meet the required academic criteria.

Successful applicants will receive bursary support while studying full-time at a recognised and registered tertiary institution. As a bursar, students will be expected to complete their qualification within the required time stated in the bursary agreement.

This is an excellent opportunity for students pursuing careers in engineering, science, law, accounting, public health, architecture, and other key sectors connected to water services and infrastructure development.


Fields of Study Available

  • B.Tech / BSc Civil Engineering – 1st or 2nd Year (2 positions)
  • BSc Water Science and Sanitation Science – 2nd Year (1 position)
  • BSc Honours Chemistry – 2nd Year (1 position)
  • Diploma in Water Science and Technology – 2nd Year (1 position)
  • Bachelor of Architecture – 1st or 2nd Year (1 position)
  • BSc / BEng Electrical or Electronic Engineering – 1st or 2nd Year (4 positions)
  • Bachelor of Geomatics / Surveying – 1st Year (1 position)
  • BSc Mechanical Engineering – 1st or 2nd Year (1 position)
  • BCom Accounting – 1st or 2nd Year (1 position)
  • LLB – 2nd Year (3 positions)
  • BSc Honours Microbiology – 1st or 2nd Year (1 position)
  • Masters of Public Health – 2nd Year (1 position)

Minimum Requirements

  • South African citizen.
  • Previously disadvantaged individual (ACI).
  • Passed Matric or equivalent.
  • Currently studying in one of the listed qualifications.
  • Minimum average of 65% overall and in major subjects.
  • Must not have another bursary or funding source.
  • Must be under 35 years old.
  • Must be a full-time student at a recognised institution.

Required Documents

  • Certified copy of South African ID.
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate.
  • Latest academic record.
  • Proof of registration for the current academic year.
