- Job Purpose:
- The Brush Hand will provide essential back-up support to the Painter within Rand Water operations
- Responsible for assisting in maintaining plant, buildings, and surrounding facilities
- Ensure that all assigned work areas remain clean, safe, functional, and presentable
- Support general painting and maintenance activities in line with Rand Water procedures and standards
- Key Responsibilities:
- Assist painters in all daily painting and maintenance tasks
- Carry and transport painting tools, ladders, and materials to work locations
- Support preparation of surfaces such as walls, ceilings, floors, fences, poles, and furniture before painting
- Assist in erecting and dismantling scaffolding for safe access to elevated work areas
- Apply undercoat, primer, and final coats of paint under supervision
- Assist in painting road markings, buildings, parking areas, and operational structures
- Collect materials, paint, and supplies from the store as required
- Ensure correct handling and storage of tools and equipment after use
- Housekeeping Duties:
- Clean all painting equipment such as brushes, rollers, trays, and buckets after use
- Ensure proper storage of tools and materials in designated areas
- Maintain cleanliness of the work environment at all times
- Remove paint spills and ensure work areas are left tidy and safe
- Support general cleaning tasks in operational areas when required
- Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification
- Minimum of 6 months relevant work experience in a similar environment
- Basic training in painting techniques is required
- Safety training will be considered an added advantage
- Knowledge Requirements:
- Understanding of basic paint application methods using brushes and rollers
- Familiarity with painting tools and equipment
- Awareness of workplace safety regulations and procedures
- Basic understanding of working at heights and confined spaces safety requirements
- Knowledge of proper handling of hazardous materials such as paint and solvents
- Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently
- Good communication skills to work effectively within a team
- Ability to work under supervision and meet set deadlines
- Physical ability to perform manual labour tasks
- Competence in working at heights and in confined spaces
- Basic problem-solving skills in routine maintenance tasks
