MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • Support nursing unit staff in daily patient care activities
  • Assist in meeting healthcare needs of patients efficiently
  • Promote safety, dignity, and comfort for all patients
  • Work collaboratively within a team-based healthcare environment

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist nurses with basic patient care (hygiene, mobility, comfort)
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organised patient environment
  • Support patient feeding and daily living activities where required
  • Observe patient conditions and report concerns promptly
  • Identify and report risks according to hospital policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate records of tasks and patient-related activities
  • Assist with administrative duties within the nursing unit
  • Ensure proper use, control, and charging of medical stock
  • Follow infection prevention and control guidelines at all times
  • Contribute to a respectful and positive patient experience
  • Work effectively with other healthcare professionals
  • Participate in continuous training and personal development

REQUIRED EDUCATION

  • Essential: Recognised Care Worker qualification
  • Advantageous: Grade 12 (Matric certificate)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • ✅ Previous experience in a healthcare environment (essential)
  • ⭐ Experience in hospitals or clinics will be an added advantage
  • ⭐ Entry-level candidates with relevant qualification may be considered

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Strong understanding of patient care principles
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and hygiene standards
  • Ability to follow instructions and hospital procedures
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic administrative and documentation abilities
  • Understanding of stock control and resource management
  • Awareness of medico-legal risks in healthcare
