POSITION OVERVIEW
- Opportunity for a Security Guard within Dis-Chem group operations
- Responsible for protecting assets, property, staff, and customers
- Ensure a safe and secure retail environment at all times
- Prevent crime, theft, damage, and disorder in store premises
- Enforce security standards and company operating procedures
- Support a professional and safe shopping environment
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- ✔ Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
- ✔ Grade C PSIRA accreditation (essential)
- ✔ Registered with PSIRA
- ✔ Minimum 3 years retail security experience (malls, warehouses, etc.)
- ✔ Clear criminal and credit record (MIE check required)
- ✔ South African citizen
- ✔ Willing to work shifts and retail hours
ADVANTAGEOUS REQUIREMENTS
- ⭐ At least 1 year experience in a similar security role
- ⭐ Driver’s licence and own reliable transport (if required)
- ⭐ PDP if deployed as a driver
- ⭐ Additional language skills
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patrol premises regularly to ensure visibility and safety
- Monitor and control access points for staff, customers, and suppliers
- Search staff, merchandisers, and suppliers when required
- Conduct vehicle searches throughout the day
- Prevent theft, damage, and unauthorized access
- Identify and report suspicious activity immediately
- Investigate signs of damage or illegal entry
- Ensure doors, windows, taps, and premises are secured daily
- Maintain registers, occurrence books, and security documentation
- Monitor CCTV cameras, alarm systems, and emergency equipment
- Respond quickly to emergencies and crisis situations
- Assist emergency services (police, fire, medical teams) when needed
- Maintain order during evacuations and emergencies
- Report incidents verbally and in detailed written reports
- Enforce store rules and security procedures consistently
- Be present, alert, and visible at all times while on duty
- Perform opening and closing security procedures
- Ensure continuous surveillance, especially during night shifts
CUSTOMER SERVICE DUTIES
- Be professional, courteous, and approachable at all times
- Assist customers, staff, and visitors when required
- Maintain positive public relations while ensuring security compliance
- Offer guidance and safety awareness when needed
SECURITY & COMPLIANCE DUTIES
- Follow Private Security Industry Regulations Act (PSIRA 56 of 2001)
- Apply Dis-Chem security policies and SOPs strictly
- Ensure proper enforcement of safety and security standards
- Prevent unauthorized access and criminal activities
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity at all times
- Report all suspicious behaviour or incidents immediately
