Successful candidates will be trained as Tractor Apprentices or Earthmoving Apprentices. AFGRI has many branches across South Africa including KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, and Western Cape. They also operate internationally in Botswana, Kenya, Uganda, and Western Australia.
The company has fully equipped workshops that repair and maintain farming machinery, forestry equipment, golf equipment, and construction machines.
Apprenticeship Details

This apprenticeship combines classroom learning with workplace training to help candidates become qualified mechanics.
Training Programme Includes
During the apprenticeship, successful applicants will receive:
- Practical workplace training
- Attendance at a training institute if required
- Distance learning through college
- Saturday classes when needed
- Product training from suppliers
- Internal training from AFGRI specialists
This programme is supported by AgriSETA and MerSETA.
Probation Period
The first 6 months will be probation. During this time:
- The company will assess the apprentice
- The apprentice can assess the workplace
- Either side may withdraw if unsuitable
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be trained to perform:
- Repair and maintenance of tractors or machinery
- Diagnosing mechanical problems
- General workshop duties
- Stock control
- Customer service
- Following safety procedures
- Working with senior technicians
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Valid driver’s license
- Good communication skills
- Computer literacy
- Administrative skills
Required Subjects

- Mathematics / Technical Mathematics
(Mathematical Literacy not accepted)

Important Conditions
- Training is free if subjects are passed
- Failed subjects must be repeated at own cost
- Apprenticeship is linked to a 3-year contract
- Work-back period applies after qualification
- Contract cannot exceed 4 years
