The ARC–Animal Production division invites applications from suitably qualified and motivated individuals for 50 Research Support Assistant positions within the Rangeland and Forage Science programme. These positions are based in Irene, Pretoria, and offer an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in gaining hands-on experience in agricultural and environmental research.

About the Role
The Research Support Assistants will play a key role in supporting researchers and technical teams in field and project-related activities. The successful candidates will be involved in practical research operations, assisting in the implementation of experiments, collecting and managing data, and ensuring that field activities are conducted efficiently and safely.
This position is particularly suitable for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, are physically fit, and are willing to operate in varying weather conditions. The role requires discipline, reliability, and a strong commitment to maintaining research standards.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for:
- Providing regular verbal and written feedback on fieldwork and project activities.
- Assisting research personnel in executing project plans and achieving set deliverables.
- Collecting, recording, and managing research data accurately and within required timelines.
- Maintaining and caring for data-collection tools and equipment.
- Ensuring the cost-effective and responsible use of materials and project resources.
- Performing routine and physically demanding tasks, including field sampling and related activities.
- Complying fully with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
- Supporting teamwork and contributing positively to the research environment.
The role demands high levels of accountability and attention to detail, as the integrity of research data depends on precision and consistency.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to carry out routine and physically demanding tasks.
- Willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions when required.
- Strong sense of responsibility and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience in a research project or scientific environment will be considered an added advantage but is not mandatory.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service
A competitive remuneration package will be offered, aligned with the scope and responsibilities of the position. The appointment will be subject to a positive security clearance.

Permanent appointments, where applicable, will be subject to a six (6) month probation period. The organisation reserves the right not to make an appointment.
