About the Position
Laundry Workers play an important role in ensuring that hospitals maintain a continuous supply of clean linen and bedding for patients and healthcare staff.
The position involves handling both clean and soiled linen, supporting stock management processes, and ensuring that hospital laundry procedures are followed according to health and safety requirements.
Candidates should be physically fit, capable of performing manual tasks, and comfortable working within a hospital environment.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 10, Grade 11, or Grade 12 qualification
- Equivalent NQF Level 3–5 qualification may be considered
- Good verbal communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Willingness to work shifts when required
The following may be advantageous:
- Previous laundry experience
- Experience working within a hospital or healthcare environment
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates may be required to perform the following duties:
Linen Collection and Distribution
- Collect linen from hospital wards and departments
- Deliver clean linen where required
- Maintain adequate linen supply throughout the hospital
Laundry Operations
- Handle soiled and contaminated linen according to safety procedures
- Pack dirty linen into designated laundry bags
- Prepare linen for transportation to laundry facilities
- Assist with the receipt and handling of cleaned linen
Loading and Offloading Activities
- Load laundry bags for transport
- Offload clean linen received from service providers
- Sort and unpack linen according to hospital requirements
Stock Control and Record Keeping
- Participate in quarterly stocktaking activities
- Assist with monitoring linen inventory levels
- Report shortages or damaged linen where necessary
General Support Duties
- Maintain cleanliness within designated work areas
- Support hospital operational requirements
- Perform overtime duties when required
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures
