Signature Cosmetics is seeking an enthusiastic and customer-focused Shop Assistant to join its team at Lemo Mall in Bloemfontein on a 3-month contract. Role Overview

The Shop Assistant will play a key role in creating a welcoming, inspirational, and personalised shopping experience for customers. The successful candidate will actively contribute to achieving store sales targets while maintaining high operational and visual merchandising standards.

This position requires a proactive individual who can work independently and as part of a team while maintaining excellent customer service standards at all times.


Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Sales
  • Greet every customer warmly and create a positive in-store experience
  • Offer Loyalty Card membership and explain its benefits
  • Inform customers about current promotions, discounts, and special offers
  • Focus on increasing average basket size through effective link selling
  • Offer baskets to customers and introduce new product lines
  • Perform professional makeovers and record customer details and products used
  • Utilise testers effectively to introduce customers to the product range
  • Handle customer queries, requests, comments, and complaints professionally
  • Escalate concerns to the Store Supervisor when required

Sales Targets & Store Performance
  • Understand and contribute to achieving sales targets, including:
    • Average spend per customer
    • Increasing basket size
    • Link selling initiatives
  • Attend and actively participate in daily morning meetings
  • Participate in floor walks and raise suggestions or concerns
  • Support monthly promotions and marketing campaigns
  • Assist with side-walk sales, pop-up stores, and centre court promotions

Stock Control & Merchandising
  • Assist with stock takes and conduct cycle counts when required
  • Report low stock levels, out-of-stock items, and stock discrepancies
  • Follow FIFO (First-In-First-Out) stock rotation principles
  • Ensure stock is stored and displayed according to handling standards
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards on the sales floor and stockroom
  • Keep shelves replenished and housekeeping standards high
  • Implement and maintain visual merchandising standards
  • Ensure promotional signage and display materials are correctly placed

Operational & Administrative Duties
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Follow Point of Sale (POS), cash handling, and banking procedures
  • Maintain staff uniform standards
  • Be familiar with operational requirements and store files
  • Monitor store notice boards and report outdated information
  • Ensure Operations Checklist standards are consistently met
  • Raise concerns regarding procedures or compliance issues when necessary

Training & Development
  • Attend all scheduled training sessions
  • Apply newly acquired knowledge and skills in daily work activities
  • Raise any product knowledge gaps with the Store Supervisor
  • Assist with the induction and training of new team members

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Matric / Grade 12 certificate or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year retail experience
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work flexible retail hours

Advantageous Skills & Experience

The following will be beneficial but not mandatory:

  • Experience in beauty, fragrance, and skincare retail
  • Experience working with Point of Sale (POS) systems
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (emails and Excel)
  • Experience with stock management and merchandising
