📍 Learnership Location – Zeekoewater Quarry
The successful candidate will complete practical workplace training at Zeekoewater Quarry in Mpumalanga. This operational quarry environment offers hands-on exposure to real industrial equipment, maintenance systems, and engineering operations essential for becoming a qualified Fitter.
Learners will work under experienced artisans and supervisors while gaining practical knowledge aligned with industry standards.
🎓 About the Learnership Programme
The Fitter 18.2 Learnership is a structured occupational training programme designed for technically inclined unemployed youth who wish to pursue a career in mechanical engineering or artisan trades.
Successful applicants will be required to sign a formal Section 18.2 Learnership Agreement, which will be registered with the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA). The programme combines theoretical learning with practical workplace training, enabling learners to develop both technical competence and workplace readiness.
During the learnership period, participants will gain experience in:
- Mechanical maintenance and fitting processes
- Equipment inspection and fault identification
- Preventative and corrective maintenance practices
- Safe use of engineering tools and machinery
- Industrial safety procedures and compliance standards
- Workplace problem-solving and technical reporting
This programme provides an excellent pathway toward becoming a qualified artisan within the mining, construction materials, or heavy industry sectors.
🛠 Key Learning Responsibilities
The selected learner will assist qualified artisans and engineering teams with daily operational activities, including:
- Supporting mechanical maintenance and repair work
- Assisting with installation and alignment of machinery components
- Conducting inspections on plant equipment
- Maintaining tools and ensuring safe working conditions
- Following occupational health and safety regulations
- Participating in structured training sessions and assessments
- Maintaining housekeeping standards within workshop and plant areas
Learners are expected to demonstrate commitment, discipline, and a strong willingness to learn throughout the programme.
✅ Minimum Requirements
Applicants must be unemployed South African youth who are technically motivated and meet one of the following educational requirements:
Educational Qualifications
- Grade 12 with:
- Pure Mathematics (Mathematics Literacy will not be accepted)
- Physical Science
- English
OR
- N2 Certificate including:
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Two additional relevant trade subjects
OR
- Engineering-related NCV Certificate with seven subjects at NQF Level 4
OR
- Technical Grade 11 including Mathematics, Science, Language, and trade-related theory subject
OR
- Relevant N6 Certificate or National Technical Diploma (T, S, or N Stream)
Additional Advantage
- A valid driver’s licence will be beneficial but is not mandatory.
