Role Summary
The General Worker will support a range of warehouse functions, including binning, receiving, picking, replenishment, stock control, scanner management, and general housekeeping. The ideal candidate will be proactive, attentive to detail, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. You will help ensure that inventory is managed accurately, orders are processed on time, and warehouse systems remain organised and efficient.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Binning and Receiving
- Ensure that all incoming stock is binned correctly, following standard operating procedures.
- Allocate new products to correct bin locations and warehouse areas.
- Update bin locations and communicate changes to supervisors for system updates.
- Assist with replenishment tasks when stock is transferred from bulk to pick locations.
- Receive and check all incoming merchandise in line with company quality standards.
2. Picking and Order Preparation
- Pick customer and branch orders promptly to meet daily order cut-off times.
- Ensure picking from bulk locations only occurs when pick stock is unavailable or when picking bulk orders to protect pack sizes.
- Follow all reasonable work-related instructions given by supervisors.
- Comply with procedures designed to support efficient customer service and inventory accuracy.
- Assist with stock take activities, counting stock and verifying quantities as required.
- Conduct double checks on picked items to reduce errors and prevent stock loss.
- Maintain consistent achievement of operational performance targets.
3. Housekeeping and Warehouse Organisation
- Keep work areas clean, tidy, and safe at all times.
- Support warehouse organisation by ensuring proper placement of goods and maintaining visible order within the workspace.
4. Scanner Control
- Issue scanners to warehouse operators daily and ensure each scanner is booked out using the electronic system.
- Receive scanners back at the end of shifts and inspect them for any signs of damage.
- Check scanners into the electronic system upon return.
- Report damaged or faulty scanners immediately to supervisors.
- Complete and maintain a daily scanner issue spreadsheet to ensure accurate tracking.
Qualifications and Minimum Requirements
To be considered for the General Worker position, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate (essential)
- Basic computer literacy, including familiarity with warehouse scanning systems
- Strong integrity and honesty
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a high-volume environment
Experience in warehouse operations or FMCG environments will be advantageous but is not strictly required. A willingness to learn, follow procedures, and work within a team environment is essential.
