Overview

Tiger Brands is looking for a motivated and reliable Filler Packer to join the production team in Isando. This role supports the safe, efficient, and high-quality processing and packaging of products within the manufacturing facility. The position serves as a phase-out role and/or waiting area for individuals preparing to transition into fully trained Autonomous Operator positions. As such, the Filler Packer plays an essential part in maintaining production flow, supporting operational activities, and learning key manufacturing principles.

This role involves performing manual and operational tasks that align with the company’s Manufacturing Excellence Control Practices (MECP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The Filler Packer will work as part of a coordinated team to ensure that products are produced according to strict quality and safety standards, while helping maintain equipment reliability and operational efficiency.


Primary Purpose of the Role

The Filler Packer is responsible for completing various manual and basic operational duties required during the processing and packaging of products. This includes safely operating primary and secondary packaging machinery, adjusting equipment where necessary, and maintaining production output in line with established specifications. The role also involves supporting team members, including Autonomous Operators and general workers, to ensure that daily production requirements are met cost-effectively and consistently.


Key Outputs & Success Measures
1. Completion of Production Tasks

The Filler Packer ensures that all production tasks are completed accurately and within required timelines. Responsibilities include:

  • Completing all required operational records, forms, and documentation.
  • Following the correct SOPs for specific tasks and equipment.
  • Responding appropriately to quality control and quality assurance findings.
  • Keeping assigned equipment clean and well-maintained at all times.
  • Reporting non-conformances promptly to supervisors.
  • Meeting key production KPIs related to output, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Working within continuous production cycles, including staggered lunch breaks, to support uninterrupted operations.

2. Hygiene and Housekeeping

High standards of hygiene are essential to maintaining product safety and operational efficiency. The Filler Packer is expected to:

  • Apply good manufacturing practices consistently within the work area.
  • Use assigned cleaning materials responsibly and effectively.
  • Maintain cleanliness in all assigned areas, including equipment, floors, and surrounding spaces.
  • Ensure that hygiene and environmental standards are followed at all times.

3. Safety & Compliance

Safety is at the core of Tiger Brands’ manufacturing culture. The Filler Packer must:

  • Follow all Health and Safety regulations applicable to the production environment.
  • Ensure that allocated equipment is safe to operate and that all safety features are functional.
  • Report any unsafe conditions, hazards, or malfunctions immediately.
  • Familiarise themselves with all company policies, procedures, and manufacturing protocols.
  • Ensure that all safety, quality, and compliance requirements are fully adhered to during every shift.

4. Workplace Improvement & Continuous Development

Tiger Brands encourages continuous improvement across all operations. The Filler Packer will participate in:

  • Invocoms sessions to discuss performance, challenges, and improvement opportunities.
  • Identifying and addressing non-compliances through structured problem-solving tools such as SGA.
  • Applying MECP, 20 Keys, and other manufacturing excellence methodologies.
  • Participating in initiatives aimed at improving processes, efficiency, and workplace safety.

5. Workplace Safety Awareness

The Filler Packer must demonstrate proactive workplace-safety behaviour by:

  • Following safe working practices at all times.
  • Reporting hazards, unsafe actions, or equipment concerns promptly.
  • Contributing to a safe, collaborative, and respectful working environment.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is someone who is dependable, hardworking, safety-conscious, and attentive to detail. You should be comfortable working in a structured manufacturing environment and willing to learn the technical and operational aspects of packaging equipment. The position requires physical stamina, teamwork, and a readiness to work according to standardised processes that ensure product quality and operational efficiency.
