SANParks Is Hiring: Data Capturers X3 (6-Month Contract) – Table Mountain National Park

South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced exciting opportunities for three (3) Data Capturers on a fixed-term, six-month contract at Table Mountain National Park. These roles are ideal for individuals who enjoy data-driven work, have strong administrative capabilities, and want to contribute to one of South Africa’s most iconic protected areas.

Successful applicants will form part of a professional team supporting critical operational, safety, and environmental management activities inside the park. This contract position provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in information management, conservation support, and law enforcement operations in a dynamic environment.

📍 Table Mountain National Park, Cape Town
Please note: Candidates are required to arrange their own accommodation, as no official housing is provided.


Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the Data Capturer vacancies, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Educational Requirements
  • Grade 12 (Matric) or NCV Level 4.
Experience
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in data capturing, administration, or related operational roles.
Technical Knowledge

Applicants should have a working understanding of various pieces of environmental, conservation, and compliance legislation, including:

  • NEM: Protected Areas Act
  • National Heritage Resources Act
  • NEM: Biodiversity Act
  • Criminal Procedure Act
  • Integrated Coastal Management Act
  • Marine Living Resources Act
  • PFMA (Public Finance Management Act)
Computer Literacy
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Short computer assessments may be conducted during selection.
Other Essential Requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Analytical and technical mindset
  • Clear criminal record (screening will be conducted)
  • Willingness to undergo a polygraph test
  • Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays, and irregular hours if needed
Advantages (Not Mandatory)
  • Environmental Management Inspector designation
  • Working experience with ArcGIS or QGIS
  • Valid Code 8 driver’s licence

Key Responsibilities

Data Capturers will support the park’s operational and safety management functions. Duties include:

Data Capture and Information Management
  • Capturing information from various sources into Cmore and other systems
  • Ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and proper classification of data
  • Supporting the analysis of data to assist proactive and reactive law enforcement interventions
Operational Room Support
  • Monitoring technology feeds within the Operations Room
  • Capturing incidents, reports, and relevant operational information
  • Fielding incoming information and relaying it to operators or relevant departments
  • Supporting the Control Officer with logistics and SEAM Team deployments when required
Administration and Stakeholder Support
  • Providing administrative and procurement support
  • Assisting with internal communication and stakeholder liaison
  • Supporting internal training sessions where necessary

This role plays a key part in maintaining reliable information flows, ensuring operational readiness, and supporting environmental protection efforts within the park.


Salary and Benefits

The position carries a Paterson Grade B3 salary scale.
The total remuneration package includes a basic salary plus applicable allowances and benefits, aligned with SANParks Conditions of Service.
