Minimum Requirements
- Education:
- An ABET Certificate (Adult Basic Education and Training) is required.
- Higher qualifications such as Grade 9, 10, 11, or 12 (Matric) will serve as a strong added advantage.
- Experience:
- Preference will be given to candidates with relevant experience as general workers in maintenance, gardening, cleaning, or infrastructure-related environments.
- Knowledge and Skills:
- Familiarity with gardening tools, maintenance equipment, and appliances.
- Basic understanding of maintenance practices for canals, dams, pipelines, and related water facilities.
- Knowledge of lawn care, weed control, painting, and firebreak maintenance.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a positive work attitude.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be responsible for assisting in the upkeep, repair, and safe functioning of government water infrastructure. Duties include:
- General Maintenance Tasks
- Perform routine maintenance of water infrastructure, including cleaning, painting, and repairing canals, pipelines, dams, and terrain.
- Carry out gardening and landscaping duties such as cutting grass, trimming trees, and maintaining lawns.
- Safety and Housekeeping
- Keep work areas neat and free from hazards.
- Ensure that all tools and equipment are cleaned, maintained, and safely stored after use.
- Identify and report faults, defects, or potential safety risks to supervisors immediately.
- Operational Support
- Assist with weed control, herbicide application, and maintenance of firebreaks.
- Load and offload tools, materials, and other equipment used in maintenance projects.
- Support the inspection team in routine infrastructure assessments to ensure water systems remain operational.
- Infrastructure Protection
- Help maintain servitudes and buildings associated with water projects.
- Participate in small-scale repair work and assist skilled workers during scheduled maintenance operations.
