Job Purpose
- Support Burial Services operations
- Assist with mortuary and funeral-related duties
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12
Experience Required
- 1–2 years’ experience in:
- Burials
- Funeral services
- Funeral planning
Skills and Competencies
- Strong organisational skills
- Attention to detail
- Good communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive organs and instruments
- Professionalism when working with unidentifiable or gruesome bodies
- Empathy and sensitivity towards grieving families
- Ability to work calmly under pressure
- Willingness to work odd hours and overnight shifts
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with removals
- Register deceased details in mortuary register
- Label bodies correctly
- Wash and store bodies in mortuary trays
- Ensure bodies are stored in correct locations
- Assist in body identification
- Prepare bodies for autopsy
- Clean mortuary and viewing areas
- Sterilise autopsy instruments and equipment
- Prepare instruments for pathologists
- Wash and sterilise instruments after autopsy
- Prepare bodies for collection
- Coffining of bodies
- Release bodies to authorised family members
- Communicate with families regarding autopsy updates when necessary
- Monitor mortuary and sign in visitors
- Assist with funeral grave and hall decoration setup
- Install lowering device machine
- Maintain responsibility for equipment and materials
