About the Role

The Department of Health invites applications for the position of Laundry Worker Level II at Dunswart Provincial Laundry. This role is critical in ensuring the cleanliness, hygiene, and efficient handling of linen for provincial healthcare facilities. Laundry workers play an essential role in the smooth operation of healthcare services by ensuring that all linen is cleaned, pressed, folded, and distributed correctly.

As a Laundry Worker Level II, you will be responsible for handling large volumes of linen, using industrial laundry equipment, and maintaining cleanliness and safety in the workplace. The role requires commitment to night shifts and adherence to strict operational procedures.


Key Responsibilities

Laundry Worker Level II duties include:

  1. Linen Handling:
    • Unload and sort dirty linen according to type and source.
    • Count, fold, and prepare linen for processing.
    • Load and operate washing machines and dryers, following safety protocols.
  2. Ironing and Pressing:
    • Operate ironing machines and presses to ensure linen meets quality standards.
    • Seal and label linen bags with appropriate tags to ensure accurate tracking and delivery.
  3. Quality Control:
    • Inspect linen for stains, damage, or defects and report discrepancies.
    • Ensure all clean linen meets hygiene and presentation standards before distribution.
  4. Workplace Maintenance:
    • Maintain cleanliness of work areas, machinery, and equipment.
    • Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety standards to prevent accidents.
  5. Documentation and Inventory:
    • Count clean linen deliveries and maintain accurate records of linen processed.
    • Track pick-up of dirty linen from healthcare facilities and report discrepancies.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Education: Minimum of Grade 10 or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience: Relevant experience in laundry operations or industrial linen management will be an added advantage.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and maintain professional relationships with colleagues.
  • Work Conditions: Must be willing and able to work night shifts as required by operational demands.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Ability to operate industrial laundry equipment safely.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining hygiene standards.
  • Physical fitness to manage repetitive tasks such as lifting, sorting, and folding large volumes of linen.
