Job Overview
Boxer Superstores is seeking motivated and reliable General Workers to join its Cape Town Distribution Centre (DC) based in Airport Industria. This permanent opportunity forms part of Boxer’s Supply Chain operations and supports the efficient movement of stock from the distribution centre to retail stores.
The Distribution Centre offers a fast-paced, structured warehouse environment with multiple operational roles available throughout the year. Depending on operational requirements and individual experience, successful candidates may be placed in areas such as Receiving, Picking, Loading, Cycle Counting, Forklift or Reach Truck Operation, Auditing, or Combining.
This role is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, physically capable, and willing to work flexible hours, including shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of the General Worker role is to ensure the accurate handling, movement, storage, and dispatch of stock within the Distribution Centre. The role supports store replenishment by maintaining stock integrity, meeting delivery deadlines, and following warehouse safety and operational procedures.
General Workers play a critical role in maintaining efficiency, accuracy, and quality across all warehouse processes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Depending on the assigned function, duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Warehouse Operations
- Accurately pick stock for retail stores in accordance with picking slips and system instructions.
- Combine stock correctly on pallets and secure pallets using shrink-wrap before dispatch.
- Load and offload delivery trucks safely and efficiently.
- Move, stack, and store pallets in designated warehouse locations.
- Operate material-handling equipment, including forklifts or reach trucks, where licensed and authorised.
Stock Control and Accuracy
- Track stock quantities and movements within the warehouse.
- Count stock accurately and report discrepancies timeously.
- Check stock for damages, shortages, and expiry dates prior to dispatch.
- Ensure short-dated, damaged, or overstocked items are returned to the Distribution Centre according to procedures.
- Assist with cycle counts and stock audits when required.
Safety and Quality
- Adhere to health, safety, and housekeeping standards at all times.
- Follow standard operating procedures to reduce errors and maintain efficiency.
- Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to meet operational deadlines.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or National Certificate.
- Between 0–2 years of warehouse experience (placement will be determined by experience level).
- Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Good communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure in a deadline-driven environment.
- Willingness to work as part of a team.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Availability to work day shifts, night shifts, weekends (including Sundays), and public holidays.
- A valid Forklift or Reach Truck licence is required for forklift or reach truck operator roles.
