Job Overview
Pedros is seeking a friendly, reliable, and customer-focused Cashier to join our Brookside store in Pietermaritzburg. As a Cashier, you will be the first point of contact for customers and play a key role in creating a positive in-store experience. You will be responsible for accurately processing customer orders and payments using the Point of Sale (POS) system, maintaining speed and efficiency during service, and ensuring that the front-of-house area is clean, organised, and welcoming at all times.

Key Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of the Cashier role is to provide outstanding customer service by actively, accurately, and timeously processing customer transactions on the POS system, in line with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The role also supports sales growth and operational excellence by maintaining service standards, promoting current offers, and ensuring front-of-house compliance with hygiene and stock requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Service Excellence
- Greet customers in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner
- Process customer orders accurately and efficiently according to company SOPs
- Respond to customer questions and requests in a helpful and respectful way
- Ensure customers receive the correct orders and a positive overall experience
Point of Sale and Transaction Handling
- Operate the POS system accurately for all orders and transactions
- Process all payment types correctly, including cash, card, and other approved payment methods
- Follow cash handling and transaction procedures to ensure accuracy and accountability
Speed and Efficiency
- Maintain a high standard of speed of service during busy periods
- Manage multiple orders while remaining calm, focused, and professional
- Support team members to ensure smooth service flow during peak times
Sales and Promotions
- Inform customers about current promotions, specials, or menu items
- Use upselling and suggestive selling techniques to increase ticket averages
- Promote add-on items in a natural and customer-friendly manner
Hygiene, Cleanliness, and Stock Control
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the counter and front-of-house service areas in line with SOPs
- Ensure display areas, counters, and equipment are clean and presentable at all times
- Monitor and maintain front-of-house stock levels, including packaging and condiments
- Report low stock levels to the relevant team member or supervisor
Compliance and Teamwork
- Follow company policies, procedures, and health and safety standards
- Work cooperatively with colleagues and management to achieve store goals
- Take direction from supervisors and contribute positively to the team environment
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates should meet the following requirements:
- Senior Certificate (Grade 12) – required
- National Senior Certificate – preferred
- Well-developed literacy skills, including the ability to read orders and follow procedures
- Well-developed numeracy skills for accurate cash handling and transaction processing
- Minimum of one year’s experience as a retail cashier, preferably within a QSR or restaurant environment
- Strong customer service orientation and communication skills
