Job Purpose
The primary purpose of the Cashier role is to receive, record, secure, and prepare cash for banking in accordance with company policies and procedures. The position requires strict adherence to cash-handling controls and security measures to ensure accuracy, accountability, and compliance.
The Cashier will work closely with drivers and internal teams to ensure that all cash transactions are processed correctly and timeously.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
Cash Deposits
- Receive all cash deposits from delivery drivers on a daily basis
- Verify that cash received matches the accompanying deposit documentation
- Prepare daily bank deposits in line with company requirements
Cash Handling and Reconciliation
- Count cash and cheques received from drivers
- Balance cash received against deposit slips and supporting documents
- Record all transactions accurately in the cash-up summary
- Ensure all discrepancies are identified, investigated, and reported
- Maintain clear and organised cash records for audit purposes
Banking Preparation
- Prepare cash and cheques for secure banking
- Ensure all deposits are sealed correctly
- Accurately record seal numbers in the cash register
Security and Compliance
- Ensure the cash office door remains locked at all times
- Do not allow unauthorised individuals access to the cash office
- Secure all cash in the safe overnight
- Ensure that cash from the previous day is removed from the premises by 11:00 AM the following working day
- Comply with all internal controls, security procedures, and company policies
This role requires a high level of responsibility, accuracy, and confidentiality.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric, including Mathematics
- Must reside in or around Benoni
- Previous experience in a cash office, cashier, or banking environment will be advantageous
- Strong numerical and reconciliation skills
- Ability to work accurately under pressure
- High level of honesty and reliability
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to follow strict procedures and security protocols
