A leading organisation in the FMCG and transport sector is seeking a reliable and safety-focused General Worker – Fuel Attendant to join its Transport Department based in Port Elizabeth. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the smooth operation of the transport fleet by ensuring that vehicles are refuelled safely, inspections are completed accurately, and fuel records are maintained effectively. Purpose of the Job

The primary purpose of the General Worker – Fuel Attendant is to ensure that all trucks and vehicles are refuelled correctly, shunted safely when required, and inspected regularly for any irregularities. The role also includes assisting the Transport Administrator with administrative tasks related to fuel management, vehicle checks, and daily operational records.

This position requires someone who is dependable, organised, safety conscious, and able to work under pressure—especially in a high-demand transport and FMCG environment.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

1. Refuelling of Vehicles
  • Safely refuel all company trucks and vehicles throughout the shift.
  • Ensure that all refuelling activities comply with internal safety and operational procedures.
2. Fuel Record Management
  • Accurately record fuel usage and maintain daily fuel logs.
  • Ensure correct dip readings are captured, documented, and reported.
  • Monitor the bowser and pump usage to prevent discrepancies or shortages.
3. Bowser and Pump Control
  • Control access and usage of the fuel bowser and fuel pump.
  • Report any malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor immediately.
  • Ensure all pump operations follow safety guidelines.
4. Vehicle Fluid Maintenance
  • Check and refill truck oil, water, and other essential fluids.
  • Inform supervisors promptly of any abnormalities during checks.
5. Vehicle Inspections
  • Conduct visual inspections of trucks and identify irregularities, leaks, tyre concerns, or potential defects.
  • Report all findings for immediate attention or escalation.
6. Housekeeping
  • Maintain the bowser area, fuel pump zone, and surrounding environment in a clean, safe, and organised condition.
  • Follow hygiene and safety protocols to minimize risk and ensure compliance with workplace standards.
7. Administrative Assistance
  • Support the Transport Administrator with necessary documentation and daily fuel reports.
  • Assist with basic clerical duties related to fuel consumption, inspections, and vehicle monitoring.

Qualification Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) with strong numerical ability.
  • A valid Code C1 driver’s licence is an advantage but not compulsory.

Experience Requirements
  • 0–2 years of experience in a similar role within the FMCG industry or transport environment.
  • Experience working with fuel pumps, bowser systems, or fleet vehicles will be an added advantage.

  • Required to work Sundays and Public Holidays based on operational needs
  • Exposure to fuel, transport equipment, and outdoor working conditions
