This National Certificate (NQF Level 2) programme provides participants with a balance of theoretical learning and practical workplace experience. Participants will develop hands-on technical skills, foundational workplace competencies, and an understanding of modern manufacturing environments. What Participants Will Learn
Learners accepted into the programme will acquire a broad range of skills and knowledge essential for productive work in textile manufacturing environments. The learnership includes exposure to:
1. Production Monitoring & Quality Standards
Participants will learn how to monitor production processes, follow operational procedures, recognise defects, and apply quality-control methods that meet CTFL standards. This helps ensure consistency, efficiency, and quality in the manufacturing environment.
2. CTFL Materials, Machinery & Operations
Learners will gain foundational understanding of textile materials, fabrics, machinery functions, and sewing equipment. This includes practical training on the safe and effective operation of industrial sewing machines and other production tools.
3. Sewing & General Production Tasks
Core sewing operations, garment assembly techniques, fabric preparation, and stitching practices form a key part of the practical component. Learners will complete tasks under supervision while developing precision, accuracy, and productivity.
4. Pressing & Finishing
Training includes garment finishing processes such as pressing, trimming, folding, and quality-checking completed items. This step ensures products meet required standards for distribution.
5. Workplace Health, Safety & Environmental Awareness
Health and Safety training covers safe working habits, risk awareness, emergency procedures, and environmental good practice. Learners are taught how to maintain a safe and responsible workplace.
6. Communication & Mathematical Literacy
To strengthen workplace readiness, learners receive training in verbal communication, written communication, and basic workplace mathematics. This includes understanding measurements, production calculations, and workplace reporting.
7. Workplace Legislation & Productivity Requirements
Participants are introduced to labour regulations, workplace rights, productivity expectations, and standard operating procedures relevant to the CTFL sector.

Entry Requirements
To qualify, applicants must have:
- Grade 9 / NQF Level 1 or ABET Level 4
- Basic communication and mathematical literacy (ABET Level 3)
- The ability to complete practical workplace assessments
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be applied where relevant
