About the Role

The Handyman will be responsible for general maintenance, repairs, and upkeep across the premises. This role requires a practical, solutions-driven individual who can manage repairs efficiently, communicate clearly with internal stakeholders, and ensure that all work is carried out safely and in line with company standards. You will support the smooth functioning of the workplace environment by completing routine maintenance tasks and resolving reported issues promptly.


Key Responsibilities
1. General Repairs
  • Carry out day-to-day repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Fix issues related to carpentry, minor drywall repairs, shelving, doors, locks, and fixtures.
  • Address structural faults and minor building issues in a timely manner.
2. Routine Maintenance
  • Conduct regular inspections of the facility to identify maintenance needs.
  • Perform basic cleaning, sanding, patching, painting, and upkeep of designated areas.
  • Ensure floors, lighting fixtures, and equipment are maintained according to standards.
3. Building & Installation Work
  • Construct, install, and repair cabinets, worktops, cupboards, storage units, and other fixtures.
  • Assist with assembling office furniture and ensuring proper installation of fittings.
  • Support minor renovation tasks where required.
4. Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting
  • Diagnose maintenance problems quickly and accurately.
  • Apply practical, analytical thinking to find effective solutions.
  • Escalate complex issues to supervisors when necessary.
5. Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and building regulations.
  • Ensure proper storage of tools, chemicals, and materials.
  • Conduct work in line with occupational health and safety standards.
  • Identify hazardous conditions and report them immediately.
6. Communication & Coordination
  • Communicate effectively with management and employees about maintenance requests.
  • Provide progress updates on repair tasks and expected timelines.
  • Coordinate with service providers when external support is required.
7. Administrative & Technical Skills
  • Use MS Office and other facility-management applications to log tasks and update records.
  • Complete checklists, maintenance forms, and job cards accurately.
  • Maintain an organised approach to tracking work done and work pending.

Candidate Requirements
Minimum Qualification
  • Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent.
  • A recognised Handyman/maintenance course or technical training will be an added advantage.
Experience & Skills
  • Practical experience in repairs and maintenance (carpentry, painting, building work, and general technical work).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Good communication skills and customer-service orientation.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
