Position Overview

Job Title: General Worker: Electrical Services (Five Positions Available)
Directorate: Infrastructure Services
Salary Range: R136 785.00 – R160 695.00 (Task Level 3)

The General Worker position is designed for individuals who are physically fit, willing to perform manual labour, and eager to support qualified electrical personnel in carrying out essential maintenance and installation tasks. This role is a key part of ensuring that electrical operations run smoothly and safely across the Municipality.

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of Grade 7 or an equivalent NQF Level 1 qualification
  • Basic functional literacy
  • Good physical health and endurance suitable for manual labour

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will assist with a range of tasks that support electrical service operations. These include:

  • Assisting with minor and major electrical works, including installations, maintenance, and repairs under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Preparing work sites by clearing vegetation, laying cables, and ensuring safe access for the technical team.
  • Using equipment such as machetes, shovels, hoes, rakes, and spades to clear areas and dig trenches.
  • Helping with the loading, unloading, carrying, and placement of materials and equipment.
  • Barricading work areas with cones and safety tape to ensure public and worker safety.
  • Unrolling and laying underground cables, as well as pulling overhead conductor lines.
  • Stabilising ladders and poles to assist artisans in elevated maintenance tasks.
  • Compacting soil and preparing pole planting sites.
  • Handing tools to supervisors or assistant artisans while working on the ground or at height.
  • Cleaning and maintaining the work area to ensure safety and neatness.
  • Reporting challenges, safety concerns, or irregularities to the supervisor.
  • Performing any additional duties assigned by the supervisor in accordance with operational needs.

These duties ensure the smooth functioning of electrical networks, which are essential for municipal service delivery.
