About the Role
As a Waitron at InterContinental Table Bay, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality food and beverage service across restaurant operations, banqueting functions, and the casino floor.
You will play a key role in ensuring that all service standards are consistently met while providing a personalised and professional guest experience.
This role is ideal for individuals who are service-driven, detail-oriented, and passionate about hospitality.
Key Responsibilities
Work Area Preparation
- Prepare mise-en-place and table settings before service
- Set up and break down function venues according to event requirements
- Ensure cleanliness and organisation of your assigned section
- Identify and report equipment or operational issues
- Follow health, safety, hygiene, and environmental standards
- Store and use equipment correctly
- Participate in stock-taking processes
Service Execution
- Take accurate and timely guest orders
- Capture orders on the system efficiently
- Explain menu items and make recommendations
- Upsell food and beverage promotions where possible
- Deliver food and drinks according to service standards
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff regarding special requests
- Clear tables and maintain a clean dining area
- Provide bills and process payments where required
- Perform end-of-shift cash-ups when applicable
Customer Engagement
- Welcome guests warmly and professionally
- Provide attentive, friendly, and respectful service
- Build rapport and understand guest preferences
- Educate guests about menu items, promotions, and facilities
- Handle complaints and resolve issues promptly
- Escalate complex concerns when necessary
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Grade 12 (Matric) – preferred
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a waiter/waitron
Skills and Competencies
To succeed in this role, candidates should have:
- Strong Food & Beverage product knowledge
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to upsell and promote products
- Knowledge of food service procedures
- Basic computer literacy
- Cash handling and cashiering skills
- Ability to work well under pressure
