About the Role
The General Worker / Packer role is central to Tiger Brands’ production operations. Successful candidates will perform a range of manual, packing, and quality-related tasks to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient production. This position requires attention to detail, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced environment.
This role supports essential food manufacturing processes and ensures that products reaching consumers meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and freshness.
Key Responsibilities
As a General Worker / Packer, your responsibilities will include:
1. Production Preparation
- Ensuring all packaging materials, tools, and equipment are ready before production starts.
- Preparing items such as tape guns, pallets, wrapping materials, and boxes.
- Reporting any missing or damaged materials to supervisors.
2. Execution of Daily Production Activities
- Completing all manual activities required during production.
- Packing products into boxes accurately and efficiently.
- Ensuring correct quantities are packed and boxes are sealed correctly.
- Loading packed boxes onto pallets according to the required stacking format.
3. Quality Assurance
- Checking clarity and accuracy of date codes on all units and outer packaging.
- Monitoring product seal quality and ensuring no damaged or inferior products proceed down the line.
- Reporting out-of-specification products, infestations, or quality issues immediately.
4. Safety and GMP Compliance
- Adhering strictly to Tiger Brands’ safety, hygiene, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised work area.
- Participating in safety observations, emergency exercises, and reporting hazards.
5. Production Equipment Support
- Assisting with the safe start-up, shutdown, and machine changeovers when required.
- Monitoring packing machines in the absence of machine operators.
- Stopping packing lines when issues arise to prevent safety or quality risks.
6. Waste Management
- Collecting production waste and ensuring safe disposal in designated areas.
- Supporting cleanliness in and around the production facility.
7. MECP & Loss Control
- Participating in company improvement programmes (5S, Teamwork, Focused Improvement initiatives).
- Assisting with capturing production losses and reporting delays or line stoppages.
8. Attendance and Timekeeping
- Reporting absenteeism, timekeeping challenges, or related concerns to supervisors or HR.
Minimum Requirements
While specific certifications are not always required for this role, ideal candidates should:
- Have basic communication and teamwork skills.
- Be physically fit to handle manual labour tasks.
- Be comfortable standing for long periods.
- Have the ability to follow instructions and maintain quality standards.
- Preferably have previous experience in a production or FMCG environment (advantage but not mandatory).
