🧾 Job Overview
The successful candidates will work under the supervision of the Duty Manager and form part of the tourism maintenance team. The main purpose of the General Worker role is to assist with the day-to-day cleaning, maintenance, and visitor support tasks to ensure the park remains clean, welcoming, and safe for all guests. Please note that the park does not provide staff accommodation, and candidates are required to arrange their own transport and housing.
🧠 Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: Grade 12 certificate (Standard 10) or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience: A minimum of 0–2 years of experience working as a General Worker, with at least 1 year of experience in the Tourism Industry.
- Language Skills: Must be proficient in two languages, including English.
- Knowledge: Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations is required.
- Skills:
- Time management and punctuality
- Good communication skills
- Strong planning and organizational abilities
- Ability to operate general garden tools
- Availability: Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and public holidays when required by the supervisor.

🧰 Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will perform a variety of general maintenance and cleaning duties to ensure that Addo Elephant National Park remains a world-class tourism destination. Responsibilities include:
- Performing general cleaning duties such as terrain maintenance, garbage removal, and cleaning of picnic areas, ablution blocks, offices, and surrounding facilities.
- Maintaining and caring for park equipment, machinery, and tools within the scope of your abilities.
- Assisting with the collection and transportation of supplies when needed.
- Applying and maintaining Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) practices in daily operations.
- Assisting with traffic regulation and ensuring visitors park in designated areas.
- Carrying out ad-hoc duties as assigned by the line manager or Duty Manager.
💰 Remuneration and Benefits
The position falls under the Paterson Grade A3 salary scale. The remuneration package includes a basic salary, along with applicable allowances and benefits as specified in SANParks’ HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Service.
