About the Position

The Cleaner Level 2 role is responsible for maintaining a clean, hygienic, and safe hospital environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Successful applicants will perform a variety of cleaning and support duties throughout the hospital while adhering to health and safety standards.

The position requires individuals who are physically fit, reliable, and capable of working in a busy healthcare environment, including shifts, weekends, and night duty when required.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 10 qualification.
  • One to two years of cleaning experience in a hospital or clinical environment.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand simple instructions.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and night shifts.
  • Ability to rotate between different cleaning areas within the hospital.
  • Honest, reliable, and trustworthy.
  • Physically fit and able to perform demanding cleaning duties.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preference will be given to:

  • EPWP trainees.
  • COVID-19 programme participants.
  • Administrative interns who have served or are currently serving within the Department, in line with Personnel Circular Letter 4 of 2017.
Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for a wide range of cleaning and support duties, including:

General Cleaning
  • Clean offices, wards, corridors, elevators, bathrooms, and toilets.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum, and shampoo floors.
  • Dust, polish, and wax furniture, doors, and other surfaces.
  • Clean walls, windows, and window sills.
  • Empty and clean waste bins.
Hygiene Maintenance
  • Refill liquid hand soap dispensers.
  • Replace toilet paper, hand towels, and air fresheners.
  • Monitor bathroom cleanliness using provided checklists.
  • Report faulty cleaning equipment.
  • Request cleaning materials when required.
Ward Cleaning
  • Damp dust hospital beds, lockers, chairs, cardiac trolleys, suction machines, curtain rails, and other ward equipment.
  • Clean sluice rooms, hand wash basins, file holders, and storage areas.
  • Label and maintain soiled linen rooms.
  • Collect, clean, refill, and return patient water jugs.
Patient Support
  • Prepare food trays for patients.
  • Collect food trolleys from the kitchen.
  • Assist nursing staff with serving meals.
  • Prepare and serve tea using food trolleys.
  • Wash cups, saucers, and kitchen utensils after meal service.
  • Clean food spills and remove empty boxes from wards.
Additional Duties
  • Perform messenger duties when required.
  • Maintain cleanliness standards throughout the hospital.
  • Follow Occupational Health and Safety procedures at all times.
