Purpose of the Learnership

The purpose of the Liquid Dairy Reception Learnership is to provide unemployed matriculants with industry-relevant training and hands-on experience in milk reception and dairy processing operations. Learners will gain an understanding of how raw milk is received, handled, tested, and prepared for further processing, while adhering to strict food safety and hygiene standards.

Upon completion of the programme, learners will have developed practical knowledge and workplace exposure that can enhance employability within the dairy and FMCG sectors.

Key Learning Areas

During the 12-month learnership, participants will receive training in the following areas:

  • Milk Reception: Understanding the process of receiving raw milk, quality checks, and handling procedures
  • Nature of Milk: Basic knowledge of milk composition and characteristics
  • Food Safety: Adherence to food safety regulations, hygiene practices, and quality control standards
  • Housekeeping: Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised production environment
  • CIP (Clean-in-Place): Understanding cleaning systems used in dairy processing equipment
  • COP (Clean-out-of-Place): Manual cleaning procedures and hygiene protocols
  • Additional Dairy Processing Modules: Exposure to relevant production and operational practices
Duties and Responsibilities

Learners participating in the programme will be expected to:

  • Attend and complete all scheduled theoretical training sessions
  • Participate actively in practical workplace training and on-site learning
  • Complete all assessments, assignments, and evaluations within required timeframes
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and health and safety standards
  • Maintain high levels of hygiene and cleanliness in all assigned work areas
  • Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and a willingness to learn
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, trainers, and fellow learners
Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this learnership programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be an unemployed South African citizen
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 29
  • Have successfully completed Matric (Grade 12)
  • No prior work experience is required
  • Have an interest in dairy production, food processing, or manufacturing

Applicants who do not meet these criteria may not be considered.
