The successful candidate will assist with general production, material handling, loading and off-loading, stock management, housekeeping and other production-related activities. Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum of a Matric certificate, or at least 2 years of proven work experience with acceptable numeracy and literacy levels.
- Numeracy and literacy skills will be tested.
- Knowledge of Macsteel products is advantageous.
- Ability and willingness to understand and learn new products.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Must be willing to undergo training.
- Must be prepared to multitask and work overtime or flexible shifts when required.
- Must be physically capable of assisting with loading and off-loading stock.
- Must be physically fit and able to climb onto trailers to hook and unhook products.
- Ability to work safely and follow company procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
The General Assistant will provide support within the production environment and assist with various operational tasks.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist with general production duties.
- Safely store materials in designated areas.
- Conduct routine safety inspections.
- Report unsafe acts, conditions and hazards.
- Report maintenance requirements in the designated work area.
- Assist other departments when required.
- Maintain safety and good housekeeping standards.
- Pull and pick materials as required.
- Pack materials into designated storage and bin locations.
- Strap materials securely.
- Sweep and maintain a clean working environment.
- Assist with stock takes.
- Offload materials onto and from loading tables.
- Learn and operate machines within the assigned area once trained and declared competent.
- Assist with other job-related functions as required.
- Follow all company policies, procedures and safety requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve work processes and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Perform any other reasonable tasks assigned by management.
Important Skills
The ideal candidate should be hardworking, reliable, energetic and willing to learn. Because the position involves physical work, candidates must be comfortable with loading and off-loading materials, climbing onto trailers, standing for extended periods and performing general production duties.
Good communication, teamwork, safety awareness and the ability to follow instructions are important for this role.
