Job Overview
The Room Attendant plays an important role in maintaining a clean, comfortable and welcoming environment for hotel guests. The successful candidate must be committed to maintaining housekeeping standards and ensuring that guest rooms and assigned areas are consistently presented in a neat and hygienic condition.
The role requires someone who is reliable, flexible and able to work independently while maintaining good communication with colleagues, supervisors and guests.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Cleaning and preparing guest rooms according to required standards.
- Changing bed linen and replacing used towels.
- Replenishing guest amenities and ensuring rooms are properly stocked.
- Maintaining the cleanliness of assigned public areas and corridors.
- Reporting maintenance problems and damages to the relevant supervisor or department.
- Reporting lost property according to company procedures.
- Responding to guest requests in a friendly, professional and courteous manner.
- Following all health and safety requirements.
- Adhering to hygiene and security procedures.
- Maintaining housekeeping equipment in good working condition.
- Assisting with deep-cleaning tasks when required.
- Accurately recording completed housekeeping activities.
- Following instructions and maintaining the required service standards.
- Working together with the hospitality and housekeeping team to ensure guest satisfaction.
Skills and Competencies
Applicants should have good people and communication skills and be comfortable interacting with guests and colleagues.
The ideal candidate should:
- Have hotel or hospitality experience.
- Be able to communicate effectively.
- Be able to work under pressure.
- Work independently with minimum supervision.
- Be flexible and willing to work long hours when required.
- Be available to work weekends.
- Have good attention to detail.
- Be reliable and responsible.
- Take pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- Have basic computer literacy, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Be able to follow procedures and instructions accurately.
Because housekeeping work can be physically demanding and requires attention to detail, candidates should be prepared to remain active throughout their shifts and complete cleaning duties to the required standard.
Qualifications
The position requires:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- A relevant qualification related to Management will be advantageous.
- Relevant hospitality or hotel experience is beneficial.
