Casual Cashier – Dis-Chem Rustenburg North
Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited is looking for Casual Cashiers to join its Rustenburg North Store in Rustenburg, North West. This is a part-time, entry-level opportunity for candidates who are customer-focused, accurate, trustworthy and comfortable working in a busy retail environment.
The successful candidate will assist customers at the point of sale and ensure that all transactions are processed accurately according to Dis-Chem’s policies and standard operating procedures. The role requires excellent attention to detail, sound numerical skills and a strong commitment to providing a professional customer experience.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- At least 6 months’ cashier or till operations experience.
- Basic computer literacy and knowledge of MS Office.
- Sound numerical skills.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Basic customer service skills.
- Willingness and ability to work retail hours.
- Reliable transport or residence within close proximity to the store.
- South African citizenship.
- Clear credit and criminal records.
An additional third language will be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
The Casual Cashier will be responsible for providing efficient and professional service to customers while accurately processing transactions.
Duties include:
- Following Dis-Chem customer service policies and procedures.
- Building professional relationships with customers.
- Reporting customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or Store Management.
- Being aware of current promotions and sales.
- Meeting the required customer turnover hourly rate.
- Ensuring customers and colleagues are not exposed to unnecessary risks.
- Applying Dis-Chem’s communication principles.
- Managing cash flow responsibly.
- Ensuring line voids and price changes are approved and signed off by the supervisor.
- Processing authorised merchandise exchanges and returns.
- Processing purchases and receiving payments through cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons and other accepted payment methods.
- Processing customer loyalty cards and applicable accelerator partner cards.
- Placing cash into the drop safe according to company procedures.
- Keeping your till code and password secure and ensuring they are only used by you.
- Ensuring outgoing stock, items and scripts are correctly scanned and paid for.
- Keeping all money safely and securely inside the till.
- Handling daily takings confidentially.
- Reporting suspicious behaviour to management.
- Assisting customers with queries relating to store merchandise.
- Following Dis-Chem security policies and procedures.
Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers. Accuracy is extremely important, particularly when processing sales, refunds and different payment methods.
