Job Overview
Thorburn Security Solutions is looking for motivated and professional Grade C Security Officers to join its team across various sites in Gauteng. The successful candidates will report to the Security Manager and play an important role in maintaining safe and secure environments for employees, visitors, clients, buildings, vehicles, equipment and other assets.
Security Officers may work across a range of sectors, including lifestyle estates, oil and gas, mining and resources, corporate and financial services, retail and wholesale, logistics and distribution, and education.
This is a permanent opportunity suited to candidates who have the required PSIRA Grade C certification, previous security experience and the ability to remain professional and alert while working in a security-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
The successful Security Officer will be responsible for:
- Safeguarding employees, visitors, buildings, vehicles, equipment and movable assets.
- Monitoring access points and controlling the entry and exit of staff, visitors and contractors.
- Managing and directing traffic flow where required.
- Conducting regular patrols of buildings, equipment, perimeter areas and other designated sections of the site.
- Monitoring CCTV, alarms, surveillance systems and other security infrastructure.
- Responding promptly to emergencies, alarms, irregularities and security breaches.
- Using alarms or signalling devices to mobilise assistance when necessary.
- Completing accurate incident, occurrence and observation reports.
- Enforcing company security procedures, rules and policies.
- Supporting emergency procedures such as fire prevention, evacuation and accident investigations.
- Checking issued security equipment and reporting defects or malfunctions immediately.
- Maintaining a professional presence and providing good customer service.
- Interacting professionally with employees, clients, contractors and visitors.
- Identifying suspicious behaviour, potential security threats and site vulnerabilities.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have:
- Valid PSIRA Certificate – minimum Grade C.
- Matric.
- Previous security experience.
- Knowledge of access control, CCTV and alarm systems.
- Strong observation, reporting and communication skills.
- The ability to handle conflict situations calmly and professionally.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform patrol duties.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
- A driver’s licence is advantageous depending on the requirements of the site.
- Firearm competency for business purposes will be advantageous.
