🧹 ABOUT THE JOB
The General Worker will help maintain clean, hygienic and safe working areas around harvesting zones, loading areas, workshops, machine yards, offices, ablution facilities and stores.
The role involves working around heavy equipment such as tractors, haulage trucks, loaders and mechanical harvesters. The successful candidate must be alert and safety-conscious when working in these environments.
🎓 REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should preferably have:
✅ Grade 10–12
✅ Basic cleaning or safety training is advantageous
✅ 1–2 years’ cleaning experience in industrial, agricultural or logistics environments
✅ Experience working near heavy machinery is beneficial
✅ Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and industrial waste handling
✅ Understanding of housekeeping procedures
✅ Ability to use cleaning equipment such as mops, vacuum cleaners and pressure washers
✅ Knowledge of safe spill-cleaning procedures
✅ Ability to identify hazards
✅ Good communication and teamwork skills
✅ Reliable and disciplined
✅ Physically fit and able to perform repetitive manual tasks
✅ Strong attention to detail
🧼 DUTIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for routine and deep cleaning of operational areas, including:
🧹 Loading areas
🧹 Workshops
🧹 Offices
🧹 Ablution facilities
🧹 Storage areas
🧹 Parking areas
🧹 Fuel stations and wash bays
Duties include removing mud, dust, leaves, cane residue, oil spills and other debris from high-traffic areas.
The candidate will also clean workshop floors, tools, benches and waste areas while ensuring walkways, platforms and access points remain clear and safe.
♻️ WASTE MANAGEMENT
The General Worker will assist with collecting and disposing of waste according to site procedures.
Responsibilities may include:
🔹 Emptying bins and replacing liners
🔹 Transporting waste to designated disposal areas
🔹 Maintaining recycling areas
🔹 Separating organic waste, scrap metal and general waste
🔹 Ensuring oil-contaminated materials are disposed of correctly
🔹 Keeping waste areas clean and free from overflow
⚠️ SAFETY & PPE
Safety is an important part of this position. The successful candidate must follow company safety policies and wear the required PPE, including safety boots, gloves and reflective clothing.
Candidates must be able to identify and report hazards such as spills, broken glass, damaged flooring and unsafe storage.
Cleaning chemicals must be handled and stored correctly, and warning signs should be placed where necessary.
🛠️ WORKING CONDITIONS
This position involves working both indoors and outdoors and may include exposure to dust, mud, noise, cane debris and changing weather conditions.
Applicants should be comfortable working around moving trucks, tractors, loaders and other heavy machinery.
The job may require bending, lifting, prolonged standing and walking on uneven surfaces.
Working hours may include shifts, weekends, public holidays and peak harvest periods.
