🧹 ABOUT THE JOB
The General Worker will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, hygiene and safe working conditions across operational areas.
The work environment may include loading areas, workshops, machine yards, offices, ablution facilities, stores and other high-traffic areas.
The successful candidate will help ensure that work areas are free from dirt, mud, spills, debris and other hazards that could affect employees, vehicles and heavy machinery.
🎓 REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should preferably have:
✅ Grade 10–12
✅ Basic cleaning or safety training will be advantageous
✅ 1–2 years’ cleaning experience in industrial, agricultural or logistics environments
✅ Experience working around heavy equipment is advantageous
✅ Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and industrial waste handling
✅ Ability to use cleaning tools and light equipment
✅ Understanding of workplace safety around heavy machinery
✅ Ability to identify and report hazards
✅ Good communication and teamwork skills
✅ Strong attention to detail
✅ Physically fit and able to perform manual and repetitive tasks
✅ Reliable, disciplined and able to work independently
🧼 DUTIES
The General Worker will perform routine and deep cleaning in operational areas such as:
🧹 Loading zones
🧹 Workshops
🧹 Offices
🧹 Ablution facilities
🧹 Storage areas
🧹 Parking and equipment yards
🧹 Fuel stations and wash bays
Duties include removing mud, dust, leaves, cane residue, oil spills and other debris from work areas.
The successful candidate will also assist with waste management, including collecting and disposing of waste according to site procedures, emptying bins, replacing liners and maintaining recycling and waste areas.
⚠️ SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety is an important part of this position.
The successful candidate must:
🔹 Follow company safety procedures
🔹 Wear required PPE such as safety boots, gloves and reflective clothing
🔹 Keep walkways and working areas clean and safe
🔹 Identify and report hazards
🔹 Clean spills and place warning signs where required
🔹 Handle cleaning chemicals safely
🔹 Report damaged equipment or unsafe conditions
The candidate will also work closely with supervisors, workshop staff, truck drivers and machinery operators to ensure cleaning activities are completed safely.
🛠️ WORKING CONDITIONS
This position may involve working indoors and outdoors, including fields, workshops and loading areas.
Applicants should be prepared to work around dust, mud, noise, machinery and changing weather conditions.
The job may require bending, lifting, walking and standing for extended periods. Working hours may include shifts, weekends, public holidays and peak operational periods.
