🚛 JOB SUMMARY
Pepkor Lifestyle is looking for a skilled and dependable Linehaul Driver to transport goods safely and efficiently between designated hubs and distribution centres.
The successful candidate will operate heavy-duty vehicles on long-distance routes while supporting PAXI deliveries and consumer goods movement.
Applicants must have extensive truck tractor and trailer driving experience, a valid Code 14 driver’s licence, valid PDP, and a clear criminal and driving record.
🔑 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Operating heavy-duty vehicles to transport freight between hubs and distribution points.
- Ensuring timely pickups and deliveries.
- Following company procedures, route schedules and road regulations.
- Conducting pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Ensuring vehicles are roadworthy and mechanically ready.
- Securing cargo properly to prevent shifting, loss or damage.
- Maintaining accurate records of mileage and driving hours.
- Complying with traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Communicating with dispatchers regarding delivery schedules.
- Reporting delays, incidents, vehicle faults and other issues promptly.
- Performing basic vehicle maintenance and fault troubleshooting where required.
- Handling freight according to company procedures.
- Maintaining professional standards to support customer satisfaction.
🚚 EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have:
Truck Tractor Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience driving 6×4 truck tractors.
- Experience with vehicles such as Scania, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo or MAN.
Trailer Experience
Minimum 3 years’ experience with either:
- 3-axle, 14.5m dry or refrigerated/perishable trailers, OR
- 6m x 12m tautliner trailers.
📋 LICENSING & COMPLIANCE
Applicants must have:
- Valid Code 14 driver’s licence.
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
- Clear criminal record.
- Clear driving record.
- Valid South African ID.
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Minimum 3 contactable references, which will be fully vetted.
🛠️ ADVANTAGEOUS SKILLS
The following will be advantageous:
- Mechanical knowledge and basic truck fault-diagnosis skills.
- Experience handling different trailer types.
- Knowledge of proper load securing procedures.
