📌 ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a Security Guard to join its team in Springs, Gauteng.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional security services to protect Dis-Chem employees, customers, property and assets. The position requires a vigilant and responsible individual who can identify suspicious activities, control access to the premises, conduct patrols and respond appropriately to security incidents.

The successful applicant must comply with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001, applicable legislation, Dis-Chem policies and industry best practices.

🎯 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Essential:

• Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate.
• Grade C PSIRA accreditation.
• Must be PSIRA registered.
• At least 3 years’ experience in the retail security environment, such as shopping malls or warehouses.
• Good knowledge of PSIRA requirements.
• Ability to read, write and speak English well.
• Fire emergency and relevant Health & Safety training or exposure.
• Good customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and remain alert.

Advantageous:

• At least 1 year of previous experience in a similar security position.
• Ability to speak an additional language.

🛡️ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Security Guard will be responsible for:

• Maintaining a visible security presence to discourage criminal activities.
• Remaining vigilant and identifying suspicious behaviour or security risks.
• Conducting regular patrols of the premises.
• Monitoring and controlling access to the site.
• Checking and recording the entry and exit of vehicles, staff, suppliers, customers and merchandisers.
• Conducting personnel and vehicle searches in accordance with company procedures.
• Maintaining and completing security registers and occurrence books.
• Investigating and reporting damage, unlawful entry or suspicious activities.
• Protecting company property, employees, customers and assets from theft, damage and unlawful behaviour.
• Ensuring that all security posts are continuously monitored while on duty.
• Providing professional and courteous customer service.
• Reporting unusual or suspicious behaviour to management.
• Following opening and closing security procedures.
• Checking that doors and windows are properly locked at the end of the day.
• Ensuring water taps are switched off where applicable.
• Monitoring alarm systems and CCTV cameras where required.
• Reporting security incidents verbally and submitting detailed written reports.
• Contacting police and emergency services when legally required.
• Assisting during emergency situations and evacuation procedures.
• Maintaining order at assembly points during evacuations.
• Providing safety advice and security warnings where necessary.
• Responding quickly and appropriately to dangerous or emergency situations.
• Remaining alert when working alone or during night shifts.
• Recording unusual occurrences and daily activities accurately.
• Enforcing site rules and regulations to prevent criminal activity.
• Assisting emergency response teams when required.
• Performing additional duties according to Dis-Chem and industry procedures.

⚠️ SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• Be PSIRA registered.
• Hold a Grade C PSIRA accreditation.
• Undergo MIE screening.
• Have a clear criminal and credit record.
• Have a valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport.
• Have a PDP when deployed as a driver.
• Be willing to work shifts and after-hours when required.
