Job Purpose
The primary purpose of the Casual Cashier is to support customer service at the point of sale and contribute to a world-class shopping experience.
The successful candidate will record customer transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system according to company policies and standard operating procedures. Accuracy is essential, with a strong focus on preventing errors, protecting cash and stock, and eliminating potential fraud risks.

Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications and Experience

- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Minimum 6 months’ cashier or till operations experience.
- Computer literacy, including MS Office.
- Sound numerical skills.
- Strong command of the English language.
- Basic customer-service skills.
- Willingness and ability to work retail hours.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Casual Cashier will be responsible for a variety of point-of-sale, customer-service, cash-handling and security duties.
Key responsibilities include:
- Following Dis-Chem’s customer-service policies and procedures.
- Establishing professional relationships with customers.
- Reporting customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management.
- Adhering to the required customer turnover hourly rate.
- Remaining informed about current sales, promotions and relevant store offers.
- Ensuring colleagues and customers are not exposed to unnecessary risks.
- Applying and maintaining Dis-Chem’s 5 Star Communication Principles.
- Taking responsibility for cash flow and ensuring money is handled securely.
- Ensuring all line voids and price changes are properly approved and signed off by the supervisor.
- Processing authorised merchandise exchanges and returns.
- Processing all purchases accurately and accepting approved payment methods.
- Receiving and processing cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons and other payment methods accepted by Dis-Chem.
- Processing loyalty cards and applicable accelerator-partner loyalty programmes, including Discovery HealthCare, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards and eBucks.
- Placing cash into the drop safe according to Dis-Chem’s standard operating procedures.
- Keeping personal till codes and passwords secure and ensuring they are used only by the authorised employee.
- Changing passwords regularly as required.
- Ensuring all outgoing stock, items and scripts are scanned and paid for.
- Keeping all money securely inside the till.
- Handling daily takings confidentially and discussing them only with authorised management.
- Remaining alert to suspicious behaviour and reporting concerns to management.
- Assisting customers with queries relating to store merchandise.
- Following all applicable Dis-Chem security policies and procedures.
