The Sales Consultant position forms part of Old Mutual’s sales environment and is focused on generating new business while maintaining relationships with existing customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering quality sales service, identifying customer needs and recommending suitable insurance solutions while working towards agreed sales and quality targets.

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of the Sales Consultant role is to provide professional and effective sales service that contributes to the production of business from both new and existing sources.

The successful candidate will engage with customers telephonically, explain available products, provide quotations and guide customers through the sales process. The role requires a strong customer focus combined with the ability to work towards daily sales targets and maintain required quality standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Sales Consultant will be responsible for a range of sales and customer service activities, including:

  • Handling incoming and outgoing sales calls according to predetermined schedules, campaigns and performance targets.
  • Guiding customers telephonically through available products, pricing, terms and conditions.
  • Providing customers with accurate and efficient quotations.
  • Managing all allocated leads and working to agreed lead-to-quote and lead-to-sale ratios.
  • Maintaining the required quote-to-sale ratio.
  • Working scheduled shifts as required by the business.
  • Achieving agreed daily sales targets.
  • Maintaining a 90% Quality Assurance (QA) average across calls.
  • Capturing customer information accurately and efficiently.
  • Finalising customer calls at the point of contact whenever possible.
  • Sending accurate policy documentation to customers within the required timeframes.
  • Ensuring every customer interaction is handled professionally and in line with the organisation’s culture, products and quality standards.
  • Managing time and workload effectively to ensure deadlines and sales targets are achieved.
  • Maintaining strong knowledge of business products, campaigns, rules and conditions.
  • Understanding customer needs and recommending the most appropriate solution based on the available product offering.
  • Ensuring all customer information, sales activity and administrative requirements are handled accurately.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants interested in the Sales Consultant position should meet the following requirements:

Education

  • Matric / Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 is required.

Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in Short-Term Insurance is required.
