The City of Tshwane is inviting suitably qualified and interested applicants to apply for three (3) General Worker positions within the Water and Sanitation Business Unit, under the Bulk and Waste Water Services Division.
The successful candidates will be based in the Bulk Water Supply Section in Pretoria Central and will assist with the operation and maintenance of bulk water infrastructure.
💰 SALARY
- Salary: R173 436 – R202 668 per annum
- Estimated remuneration package: R252 686 – R289 893 per annum

🎯 JOB PURPOSE
The successful candidate will assist the Artisan Assistant with duties related to the operation and maintenance of bulk water infrastructure.
The role involves general physical work, cleaning, moving materials and assisting artisans with maintenance activities at water infrastructure sites.
📚 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Basic literacy is required.
- Relevant experience in a water environment will be an added advantage.
- Must be physically fit and in good health.
- Must be able to perform physical work associated with operation and maintenance activities for continuous periods.
- Must be willing and able to work shifts, overtime and standby duties.
- Applicants must undergo a criminal record check.
- Successful applicants must allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at their own cost.

🛠️ PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The appointed General Workers will be responsible for assisting with a range of operational and maintenance activities, including:
- Digging and backfilling holes and trenches.
- Sorting, loading, offloading, moving, stacking and storing materials, equipment and supplies.
- Assisting the Artisan Plumber with verifying reservoir water levels.
- Cleaning and washing reservoirs.
- Assisting artisans with the replacement or installation of valves and related equipment on bulk water infrastructure.
- Cleaning machinery, equipment, tools and work areas.
- Providing general assistance during operation and maintenance activities.
- Following instructions provided by supervisors and artisans.
- Maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
- Performing physical tasks required to support the effective operation and maintenance of bulk water infrastructure.
