Positions Available

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is recruiting for two permanent General Worker positions within the South Region. The available posts are located at:

  • eThekwini District Office – 1 post
  • uMziwabantu & Ezingolweni Local Office – uGu District – 1 post

Job Overview

The General Worker will provide essential practical support to the relevant departmental office. The role focuses primarily on maintaining clean, orderly and presentable office grounds, assisting with gardening activities and providing general assistance to ensure that the workplace environment remains functional and well maintained.

The successful candidates will be expected to work with their hands, follow instructions, use basic equipment safely and contribute to the general upkeep of the department’s facilities and surrounding grounds.

Importantly, no previous work experience is required for this position. Applicants must, however, meet the minimum educational requirement and demonstrate the basic skills needed to perform the duties effectively.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful General Worker will be responsible for a range of practical and maintenance-related duties, including:

1. Cleaning and Maintaining Office Grounds

The employee will be responsible for keeping the grounds surrounding the relevant departmental office clean, neat and presentable. This may include removing litter, clearing unwanted material and ensuring that outdoor areas are maintained to an acceptable standard.

2. Planting and Gardening Activities

The position involves assisting with the planting and maintenance of:

  • Trees
  • Grass
  • Flowers
  • Other plants and garden areas

The successful candidate should be comfortable performing basic gardening tasks and following appropriate planting procedures.

3. General Office Assistance

The General Worker will provide practical assistance to the office as required. This may involve supporting employees with general tasks that contribute to the smooth functioning and maintenance of the workplace.

4. Garden Equipment Inspection and Maintenance
