The Gauteng Department of Health is inviting suitably qualified and hardworking candidates to apply for 3 Porter Level 2 positions at Tambo Memorial Hospital.

🎓 REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • A minimum of Grade 10 or an equivalent qualification.
  • Ability to read, write and understand simple instructions, correspondence and memos.
  • Previous experience in a clinical or hospital environment will be an added advantage.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including night shifts, weekends and public holidays.
  • Willingness to rotate between different departments according to operational requirements.
  • Must be physically fit and able to perform duties such as assisting with the lifting and transportation of patients.
  • Good communication skills and telephone etiquette.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with patients and sensitive information.
  • Basic understanding of health, safety and hygiene principles.

🏥 KEY DUTIES

The successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Transporting patients between different service points, clinical areas and hospital wards.
  • Assisting with the safe transfer of patients from ambulances and private vehicles onto wheelchairs or stretchers.
  • Ensuring patient safety throughout the transportation process.
  • Cleaning and maintaining stretchers and wheelchairs after use.
  • Transporting deceased patients from hospital wards to the mortuary.
  • Accurately completing the mortuary register.
  • Reporting faulty equipment to the supervisor and ensuring equipment is properly stored.
  • Participating in administrative procedures within the mortuary.
  • Following the correct protocols when interacting with members of the public and bereaved families.
  • Ensuring that required equipment is available and ready for use.
  • Performing other reasonable duties delegated by the supervisor.
