🎯 JOB PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to ensure the safe and timely delivery of goods to and from customers while ensuring that all relevant company procedures and delivery requirements are followed.
The driver will be required to operate the assigned vehicle responsibly, complete delivery documentation and maintain professional relationships with customers and colleagues.
🎓 REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 qualification.
- At least 3 years’ delivery experience.
- Valid driver’s licence with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP) – essential.
- Good time-management skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Honest, trustworthy and demonstrates integrity.
- Must have sober habits.
- Must have a clear criminal record.
- Ability to work independently while following company procedures.
- Good customer-service skills will be an advantage.
🚛 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Inspecting the vehicle before departure and upon return.
- Completing vehicle inspection lists and submitting them to the Dispatch Supervisor every Monday for sign-off.
- Reporting any vehicle faults or errors immediately before leaving the premises.
- Checking parcels with the supervisor before loading the vehicle.
- Following the New Dispatch Loading Procedure at all times.
- Delivering parcels to customers according to the designated route, route schedule and trip sheet.
- Ensuring customers comply with the required Proof of Delivery (POD) procedure.
- Adhering to the relevant RFC procedures.
- Delivering all documents and collection slips allocated to the trip sheet.
- Obtaining the required proof of delivery from customers.
- Signing trip sheets in with the POD Clerk.
- Ensuring all documents assigned to the driver are completed and returned as required.
- Taking responsibility for outstanding trip sheets and any claims resulting from missing PODs.
- Ensuring there are no unauthorised stock transfers between customer shops.
- Maintaining and cleaning the assigned vehicle.
- Reporting vehicle problems immediately to the Dispatch Supervisor.
- Reporting any delivery or POD-related issues promptly.
- Following all company policies, procedures and safety requirements.
