📌 JOB PURPOSE
eThekwini Municipality is inviting suitably qualified and experienced candidates to apply for the position of Workshop Attendant within the Fire Services Directorate.
The successful candidate will perform mechanical support activities and assist colleagues and the immediate supervisor with the maintenance, servicing and repair of municipal vehicles, equipment and plant.
🛠️ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Repairing vehicle punctures and replacing components where required.
- Replacing batteries and ensuring batteries are properly maintained and charged.
- Cleaning engine parts using the required liquids, detergents and cleaning materials.
- Jacking vehicles safely and removing wheels when carrying out repairs and maintenance.
- Preparing tools, materials and waste containers before repair and servicing activities.
- Performing minor vehicle servicing activities.
- Changing engine oil and lubricating relevant vehicle components.
- Removing and replacing oil and fuel filters.
- Removing and replacing air cleaners and air filters.
- Assisting with the removal and refitting of engines and gearboxes.
- Assisting with the removal and replacement of exhaust systems.
- Assisting with wheels, brake drums and related components.
- Assisting with the removal and fitting of starter motors and alternators.
- Replacing or assisting with the replacement of fan belts and other vehicle components.
- Keeping workshop areas clean, orderly and safe.
- Cleaning worksites after completing maintenance activities.
- Ensuring mechanical tools and equipment are properly stored and safeguarded.
- Following workplace health and safety procedures at all times.
- Performing other duties related to the workshop and vehicle maintenance function.

🎓 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Essential:

- Relevant practical/work experience as specified by the municipality.

- Relevant workshop, mechanical or vehicle maintenance experience.
