Job Overview

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health is inviting suitably qualified and experienced candidates to apply for the position of Administration Clerk Supervisor (Patient Administration) at King Dinuzulu District Hospital Complex.

This is a supervisory administration position within the hospital’s Patient Administration environment. The successful candidate will oversee several important administrative areas, including medical records, admissions, discharges, appointments, casualty, emergency bookings, archival services and mortuary administration.

The role is suited to an experienced patient administration professional who is confident supervising staff, managing administrative processes, working with patient records and handling financial and revenue-related responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising the Patient Administration section and ensuring that services operate efficiently.

Duties include:

  • Supervising the Patient Administration section.
  • Overseeing medical records, archival, mortuary, casualty, admission, discharge, appointments and emergency booking functions.
  • Training, developing and monitoring staff.
  • Managing workplace conflict and disciplinary matters where required.
  • Ensuring effective and efficient utilisation of resources.
  • Conducting internal audits and supporting risk management.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant policies, legislation and procedures.
  • Improving work processes to reduce patient waiting times.
  • Compiling and submitting monthly reports.
  • Monitoring waiting-time information and head-count registers.
  • Ensuring proper archival of patient files.
  • Maintaining effective records-management systems.
  • Conducting regular records audits.
  • Implementing and monitoring Performance Management within Patient Administration sections.
  • Implementing quality-improvement programmes through monitoring and evaluation.
  • Ensuring effective and efficient cash management of all state monies collected.
  • Monitoring the quality and efficiency of patient administration services.
  • Ensuring staff follow established procedures and standards.
  • Supporting the smooth delivery of patient-facing administrative services.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Standard 10 certificate / Grade 12.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in Clerical/Administrative work within Patient Administration.

A qualification in the relevant field is recommended, including:

  • Degree or National Diploma in Public Management.
  • Public Administration.
  • Financial Management.

The advert indicates that the recommended qualification should be accompanied by three years’ experience in Patient Administration.

Important Experience Documentation

A valid Code EB driver’s licence is recommended for the position.
