Job Overview
Macsteel Tube & Pipe is looking for an Operator Warehouse to join its Operations team at Mac City – Elandsfontein, Gauteng. This is a full-time opportunity within the Logistics category, suited to an individual with strong warehouse, stock-handling and material-moving capabilities.
The successful candidate will support the receiving, checking, storing, picking, packing, loading and offloading of Macsteel products. The role also involves operating warehouse equipment, using scanners and SAP to record stock movements, assisting with stock counts and maintaining high standards of safety and housekeeping.
This is a hands-on warehouse position that requires accuracy, physical awareness, product knowledge and the ability to work safely around machinery and lifting equipment.

Job Purpose
The Operator Warehouse is responsible for ensuring that incoming and outgoing materials are handled efficiently, accurately and safely.
The position covers the full range of warehouse activities, from receiving materials from suppliers and verifying quantities and quality to storing, labelling, picking, packing and preparing products for customer and inter-branch deliveries.
The employee will also be expected to ensure that stock is correctly recorded on SAP and that products are stored in a way that protects them from rust, damage and other forms of deterioration.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric, or alternatively 5 years of proven work experience with acceptable numeracy and literacy levels.
- Numeracy and literacy skills will be tested.
- Ability to accurately use barcode scanners when picking and storing products.
- Ability to understand SAP bin and storage locations.
- Product knowledge of Macsteel products, including valves, pipes, fittings, flanges and structural steel.
- Ability and willingness to learn about new products.
- Ability to use measuring equipment.
- Valid crane, forklift, tractor and side-loader licences must be provided.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Ability to use equipment such as tablets, smartphones, crane remotes and scanners.
- Willingness to undergo required training.
- Ability to multitask.
- Willingness to work overtime or flexible shifts when operationally required.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Receiving and Checking Materials
The successful candidate will receive incoming materials and physically check deliveries against supplier delivery notes.
This includes checking:
- Correct product sizes.
- Quantities received.
- Product quality.
- Material descriptions.
- Other relevant delivery information.
Any discrepancies, shortages or quality concerns must be identified and reported appropriately.
Storage and Product Identification
Materials must be stored in their correct allocated areas to ensure efficient stock management and easy access.
Responsibilities include:
- Marking and identifying materials.
- Applying labels and barcodes.
- Using colour coding where required.
- Labelling items when bundles are broken.
- Packing materials correctly.
- Ensuring products are stored safely.
Products such as tubing, sheets, lip-channels and other applicable materials must be stored appropriately to prevent rust and damage.
Where required, the employee may also clean rusted or soiled materials.
Loading and Offloading
The Operator Warehouse will be responsible for loading and offloading materials safely and efficiently.
This includes:
- Loading customer and inter-branch deliveries.
- Offloading incoming materials.
- Checking and slinging materials being loaded or offloaded.
- Ensuring materials are handled correctly.
- Preventing product damage during movement.
- Reporting stock shortages and damages before the end of the shift.
Picking, Packing and Strapping
The role includes operating relevant machinery and completing picking and packing activities when required.
The successful candidate will:
- Pick materials accurately.
- Check picked products.
- Pack materials correctly.
- Strap material securely.
- Prepare products for dispatch.
- Ensure products are ready for customer and inter-branch deliveries.
SAP and Scanning
Accurate stock recording is an important part of the role.
The Operator Warehouse will use barcode scanners to record material movements and ensure that stock allocation information is correctly captured in SAP.
The employee must be able to:
- Scan material movements.
- Record stock information accurately.
- Understand SAP bin and storage locations.
- Ensure stock allocations are correctly captured.
- Assist with stock cycle counts.
Accuracy is essential because incorrect stock information can affect warehouse operations and customer deliveries.
Safety Responsibilities
Safety must be maintained at all times.
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Conduct routine safety inspections.
- Report unsafe acts and conditions.
- Follow all company safety rules.
- Complete daily crane and forklift checks.
- Inspect lifting equipment before use.
- Report equipment defects immediately.
- Ensure materials are safely positioned.
- Keep walkways clear of obstructions.
Daily crane and forklift checks include visual inspections of items such as hooks, slings, chains, crane ropes, crane drums, spreader beams and other lifting equipment.
Any defects identified must be reported immediately.
Housekeeping
The employee will be responsible for maintaining good housekeeping standards throughout the warehouse and work areas.
Materials must be packed and positioned correctly so that walkways remain clear and employees can move safely through the bays.
Any protruding material must be clearly marked with hazard tape to reduce the risk of accidents.
Working Across the Site
The successful candidate must be prepared to work across all gantries and bays within the site.
The position requires flexibility because warehouse activities can vary depending on operational requirements, stock movements and customer deliveries.
The employee may also be required to perform additional warehouse tasks from time to time.
