🎓 Minimum Requirements
Essential
- Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate.
- Grade C PSIRA accreditation.
- At least 3 years’ general exposure in the retail industry, such as:
- Shopping malls
- Warehouses
- Retail environments
- Knowledge of PSIRA requirements.
- Fire emergency and relevant Health & Safety training/exposure.
- Ability to read, write and speak English well.
Advantageous
- At least 1 year of previous experience in a similar security role.
- Knowledge of an additional language.
🛡️ Key Responsibilities
The Security Guard will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment at Dis-Chem premises.
Duties include:
- Remaining vigilant and identifying suspicious or criminal activity.
- Conducting regular patrols of the premises.
- Monitoring and controlling access for staff, customers, suppliers and visitors.
- Conducting authorised searches of staff, suppliers, merchandisers and vehicles.
- Investigating and reporting signs of unlawful entry or damage.
- Protecting Dis-Chem’s property, assets, staff and customers.
- Maintaining and completing registers and occurrence books.
- Reporting suspicious behaviour or incidents to management.
- Supervising refuse removal according to Dis-Chem procedures.
- Being present and alert at the assigned security post.
- Performing opening and closing security procedures.
- Ensuring doors and windows are secured at the end of the day.
- Monitoring alarm systems and CCTV cameras where applicable.
- Responding quickly and appropriately to emergency situations.
- Contacting police, emergency services and other relevant authorities when required.
- Preparing detailed written reports following incidents.
- Assisting during evacuations and maintaining order at assembly points.
- Providing security and safety advice to staff and customers.
- Maintaining accurate records of unusual occurrences and daily activities.
- Enforcing security rules and procedures to prevent criminal activity.
- Providing assistance during emergencies and alerting relevant response teams.
- Performing additional departmental duties when required.

🚨 Special Conditions

- Have a PDP when deployed as a driver.
