Fedics is looking for a Wardhostess to join its team in Johannesburg, Gauteng.
This is a full-time opportunity for a friendly, professional and patient-focused individual who enjoys working with people and providing excellent service in a healthcare environment.
The Wardhostess will work individually on patient wards and will be responsible for serving breakfast, lunch, supper and snacks to patients in a busy and fast-paced hospital environment.
The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring that patients receive their meals, beverages and refreshments in a professional, timely and respectful manner. The position requires someone who understands the importance of patient dignity, food safety, hygiene, accuracy and excellent customer service.

🎓 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

- Matric / Grade 12.
- Previous experience working in a hospital environment will be advantageous.

🍽️ KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional meal and beverage services to patients.
Duties include:
- Ensuring patients have access to fresh ice water at all times.
- Maintaining beverage stations.
- Ensuring tea and coffee urns are filled, operational and available during service periods.
- Serving tea, coffee, beverages, snacks and meals to patients.
- Providing service in a professional, courteous and timely manner.
- Assisting patients with menu selections.
- Ensuring menu cards are completed accurately according to patient preferences and dietary requirements.
- Submitting completed menu cards to the kitchen within the required timeframes.
- Maintaining and updating patient diet lists before each meal service.
- Communicating dietary changes, restrictions and special requests to the kitchen.
- Transporting food trolleys safely between the kitchen and patient wards.
- Ensuring meals are delivered on time.
- Checking meal trays before delivery to ensure they are complete and accurate.
- Ensuring meals meet required quality standards.
- Serving meals according to hospital procedures.
- Providing excellent patient-focused service.
- Collecting meal trays promptly after meals.
- Keeping ward areas clean, tidy and free from used meal-service items.
🧼 FOOD SAFETY & HYGIENE
The Wardhostess must maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and infection control.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining strict control of crockery, cutlery and serving equipment.
- Ensuring all equipment is accounted for and stored securely.
- Washing and sanitising cutlery and service equipment correctly.
- Handling equipment according to food safety requirements.
- Ensuring cutlery is presented appropriately.
- Maintaining a clean and hygienic ward kitchen and service area.
- Following all Tsebo Catering and hospital hygiene procedures.
- Wearing the prescribed uniform and PPE correctly.
- Maintaining a professional appearance at all times.
❤️ PATIENT-FOCUSED SERVICE
Patient care is an important part of this position. The successful candidate must treat patients with respect, dignity, patience and professionalism.
You may be required to assist patients with menu selections and special dietary requirements while ensuring that requests are communicated accurately to the kitchen.
The Wardhostess must also report any concerns relating to patient care, hygiene, stock, equipment or service to the relevant supervisor immediately.
