📢 JOB OVERVIEW
ANEW Hotel Ocean Reef in Zinkwazi, KwaZulu-Natal, is looking for a dedicated and hardworking Sculler to join its culinary team.
The Sculler plays an important role in ensuring that the hotel kitchen remains clean, organised, hygienic and fully equipped to support the chefs and provide guests with an excellent dining experience.
The successful candidate will be responsible for washing and sanitising dishes, cleaning kitchen equipment and work areas, managing kitchen waste and supporting the kitchen team with various duties. The role requires someone who takes pride in cleanliness, follows food safety procedures and can work effectively in a busy hospitality environment.
🧽 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Washing and sanitising dishes, cutlery, glassware, pots, pans and kitchen utensils.
- Operating and maintaining the dishwashing machine according to hygiene and safety standards.
- Cleaning and sanitising kitchen equipment after use.
- Ensuring equipment is stored correctly.
- Keeping kitchen workstations, preparation areas and storage areas clean.
- Sweeping, mopping and sanitising kitchen floors.
- Cleaning spillages immediately to maintain a safe working environment.
- Removing kitchen waste and separating recyclable materials where applicable.
- Cleaning and sanitising waste bins regularly.
- Assisting with receiving and unpacking stock when required.
- Assisting with basic food preparation, such as washing vegetables, peeling and portioning ingredients.
- Replenishing cleaning chemicals, detergents and other consumables.
- Reporting damaged equipment and maintenance issues to the Kitchen Manager.
- Reporting health and safety hazards immediately.
- Following food safety, hygiene and HACCP standards at all times.
- Complying with Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
- Supporting chefs and kitchen staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
- Performing any other reasonable duties assigned by management.

Because the position is based in a professional hotel kitchen, maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene is essential.
The Sculler must ensure that dishes, utensils, equipment, floors and food preparation areas are properly cleaned and sanitised.
The successful candidate must also:
- Follow HACCP and food safety requirements.
- Follow all OHS policies and safe working practices.
- Use cleaning chemicals and equipment correctly.
- Keep walkways and working areas free from hazards.
- Report unsafe conditions or damaged equipment immediately.
- Dispose of waste according to company procedures.
