BTT is looking for an Operator Level 4 to join the Durban Operations Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting safe, efficient and effective bulk storage operations while working according to the company’s safety, operational and SHEQ requirements.
📌 Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
- Good proficiency in English.
- Mathematics and Science will be advantageous.
- Must have completed all Operator Level 4 Competency modules required by the relevant training centre.
- At least 1 year’s experience in chemical plant operations.
- Code 08 driver’s licence will be advantageous.
- Must be physically fit according to the Occupational Risk Exposure Profile (OREP).
🛠️ Main Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Always work safely and comply with all PPE requirements.
- Perform operational and SHEQ activities according to BTT policies and work instructions.
- Comply with the OHS Act, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and other applicable legislation.
- Follow operational procedures when loading and discharging products.
- Assist with the receipt and dispatch of ships, road tankers, rail tankers and drums.
- Assist with tank stripping and preparation of lines and equipment for operations.
- Carry and connect hoses as instructed.
- Insert and remove pigs as directed.
- Assist with filling, stencilling, preparation and cleaning of drums.
- Connect road, rail, shipping and drumming hoses for loading and offloading under appropriate supervision.
- Assist with daily tank dips under the supervision of an Operator Level 2.
- Load and decant vehicles unsupervised once the connection or line-up has been checked by an Operator Level 2 or above.
- Assist with cleaning separators, bund floors, tanks, berth lines, roads, vehicles and operational lines.
- Move between sites when required due to operational needs.
- Perform general housekeeping duties, including painting, sweeping, cleaning, grass cutting and washing floors.
- Operate a forklift to stack and store products if appropriately licensed.
- Perform any other lawful duties required in the interest of the company.

- Willingness and availability to work shifts according to the BTT shift roster.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of pumps, valves and operational procedures.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and instructions.
- Ability to work effectively as part of an operations team.
- Good physical fitness and the ability to perform practical operational duties.
