An exciting opportunity is available for a Medium Motor Vehicle Driver to join Unitrans in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing vehicles for trips and operating heavy-duty vehicles safely and efficiently. The company is looking for a high-calibre Code 10 Driver who has relevant driving experience, a strong safety record and the ability to work in a demanding distribution environment.
Applicants must have a safe driving record and clean criminal record and must be prepared to work shifts, weekends and public holidays when required.
🎓 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 10 Literacy level or equivalent.
- Grade 12 / National Certificate is listed as the minimum education level.
- Valid Code 10 Driver’s Licence.
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
- At least 3 years’ articulated driving experience.
- Must be medically fit.
- Must have a clean criminal record.
- Knowledge and experience in defensive driving.
- Knowledge of Eaton Fuller and ZF gearboxes.
- Knowledge of the function and location of vehicle components.
- Knowledge of the Road Traffic Act, particularly as it relates to operating vehicles.
- Understanding of appropriate driver actions during different weather, road and traffic conditions.
- Knowledge of procedures for reporting emergencies and vehicle defects.
- Ability to conduct vehicle inspections.
- Knowledge of how to operate a fire extinguisher.
- Understanding of ways to maximise vehicle cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
- Knowledge of vehicle loading techniques.
🚛 KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Preparing vehicles for trips.
- Operating heavy-duty vehicles safely and responsibly.
- Completing and handling all required documentation.
- Performing related ancillary duties as required.
- Conducting appropriate vehicle inspections before operating the vehicle.
- Identifying and reporting vehicle defects and emergencies.
- Following all reasonable instructions provided by the Supervisor.
- Ensuring that vehicles are operated in accordance with safety requirements.
- Applying defensive driving principles at all times.
- Considering weather, road and traffic conditions when driving.
- Ensuring that loads are handled and transported appropriately.
- Supporting the efficient and cost-effective operation of the vehicle.
- Maintaining a safe driving record.
- Maintaining a clean criminal record.
- Working shifts, weekends and public holidays when required.
👤 WHO SHOULD APPLY?
This opportunity is suitable for experienced Code 10 Drivers who have a valid PDP and the required articulated driving experience. Candidates should be safety-conscious, responsible and comfortable operating heavy-duty vehicles.
Applicants should also be able to work independently, follow instructions from supervisors and understand the importance of vehicle safety, inspections, documentation and proper loading procedures.
