Premier FMCG is seeking an experienced and reliable Driver: Salesman to join the Blue Ribbon Durban team. • Valid Code 10 driver’s licence.
  • Valid Public Driver’s Permit (PDP).
  • 2–3 years’ experience in a similar role.

The successful candidate should also be physically capable of performing the requirements of the role, including loading and offloading-related activities and handling stock and pallets.

Truck Housekeeping

The Driver: Salesman will be responsible for ensuring that the allocated truck remains neat, clean and presentable at all times.

Maintaining a clean vehicle is important for both operational efficiency and the professional image presented to customers.

The driver must ensure that the vehicle is kept in an acceptable condition and that any issues affecting its cleanliness or operational readiness are addressed appropriately.

Incident and Accident Reporting

All incidents and accidents involving the vehicle must be reported to management timeously.

The driver is expected to take responsibility for identifying and reporting incidents and must follow the appropriate company procedures whenever an accident, incident or safety-related concern occurs.

Prompt reporting allows the business to respond appropriately and maintain safe operating standards.

A major responsibility is maintaining accurate control of all Proof of Delivery (POD) documentation.

The Driver: Salesman must ensure that:

  • All PODs are properly signed.
  • Required stamps are obtained.

Accurate POD management is essential for confirming successful deliveries and supporting the company’s administrative and financial processes.

Stock and Pallet Control

The driver will monitor the loading and offloading of all stock from the vehicle.

The successful candidate must ensure 100% accuracy when handling stock and must pay close attention to quantities throughout the delivery process.

Pallet control is also an important responsibility. The driver must monitor pallets being loaded onto and offloaded from the truck and ensure that pallet quantities are accurately accounted for.

Strong attention to detail is therefore essential.

Vehicle Checks and Maintenance

The Driver: Salesman must complete daily vehicle inspections before operating the truck.

Responsibilities include:

  • Completing daily vehicle checklists.
  • Identifying vehicle defects.
  • Reporting defects appropriately.

This requires responsible vehicle operation, good route awareness and careful management of fuel usage.

The successful candidate should understand how driving behaviour and vehicle management can affect operating costs.

Route Reconciliation and Cash Handling

After completing the assigned route, the driver will be required to reconcile at the relevant site.

The position also involves the banking of cash collected during the route.

The successful candidate must therefore demonstrate accountability, accuracy and integrity when handling company cash and documentation.

Meetings and Communication

The Driver: Salesman will be expected to attend Invocoms and participate in required operational communication.

Effective communication is important because the role requires interaction with customers, supervisors, fleet controllers and other members of the team.

This is a full-time, six-day position in a pressurised FMCG environment.

The successful applicant must be prepared to work:

  • Saturdays.
  • Sundays.
  • Public holidays.

Working hours will be determined according to the applicable shift roster.

Because the role involves managing an allocated route and ensuring deliveries are completed accurately and on time, the ability to work under pressure and maintain consistent performance is important.
